Is synonymous with high-class trucks and SUVs GMC brand has been around for about 100 years. GMC name came with the creation of "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company" in 1901. Gabrovski belonged to Max, the company has built some of the earliest commercial trucks.
Despite its successful participation in the development of premature trucks Gabrovski institution could not survive on its own. GM popularity grew thanks to Business-whiz Durant, who bought the company in 1909, founding the base for General Motors Truck Company, which later turned into the GMC.
Reliance Motor Car Company was viewed as the missing ingredient and quickly merged with the Rapid, to form the "GMC Truck" in 1911. A year later, GM showed off its new brand at the New York International Auto Show.
After receiving the necessary attention to the start of production, GM's focus on building trucks, making about 20,000 units in 1912. Participation GMC was evident only in the 372 independent units.
Despite the fact that the GMC timidly developed within GM's, she drew attention to a number of crossovers.
In 1916 GMC truck covered the distance from Seattle to New York within thirty days of a long drive, but 14 years later, a second truck GMC made it from New York to San Francisco in 5 days and 30 minutes.
As soon as the WW1 came to an end,GMC beginning of a new chapter in the automotive industry. War destroyed many companies, allowing survivors, such asGM's biggest, collect loot.
In 1925 Chicago bus manufacturer under the name Yellow Coach was partly connected to theGeneral Motors.
By 1943,GM acquired full ownership of Yellow Coach and turned it intoGM Truck and Coach Division.GMC has also been involved in the production of urban and transit buses throughout the '70s and' 80s, after which production was stopped competitors.
Resuming regular production of trucks,GMC has joined a number of suppliers for the US Army during WW2 by building 600,000 trucks throughout the armed conflict. In the postwar periodGMC experimented with different vehicles: fire engines and ambulances, and heavy trucks.
Despite the reputation that has earned theGMC, expansion fell short of expectations and were eliminated in other market segments. Production of SUVs, pickups and light-duty trucks have been a priority and has remained unchanged ever since.
Until recently, theGMC stuck to its old design, as well as sister-rivalChevrolet, but soon the company brushed the dust from his shoulders through the introduction of Acadia - a model that emphasizes the separation between designGMC andChevrolet. Currently,GMC is more popular and sales in Canada, but not in the US, where theChevy trucks are still kept in the first place.
